10 Things The DCEU Wishes It Could've Done Differently

4. Sorted Out Henry Cavill's Moustache

Henry Cavill's moustache became an internet legend throughout the latter half of 2017, but for all the wrong reasons. Well, the mouth blanket itself looked cool, but the splodgy mess it left behind after being digitally removed from the actor's face was... yikes. Just yikes.

With Cavill prohibited from shaving it off and Justice League's visual effects team pressed for time, the filmmakers had to hastily cover up every single hair present on his face in order to blend the film's reshoots with the previously-shot footage, in which Superman was clean shaven.

You've all seen pictures of it by now, along with the social media reactions, the reaction videos, and the memes, but this wasn't a case where the internet turned a non-issue into an issue: all this commotion really was warranted, because for a $300 million dollar blockbuster, the CGI work here was just bad.

Justice League already had a lot of bad press in the run-up to its release, and "moustache-gate" only caused it to become the butt of even more jokes. The visual effects artists weren't really at fault here, since they simply weren't given enough time to pull off such a complex job, but regardless, Warner Bros., the production crew, and even Cavill himself must have been quite embarrassed at how this one turned out.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
