10 Things We Know About The Future Of The X-Men Movies

9. Dark Phoenix Is (Currently) Fox's Last Main X-Men Movie

Factoring in the looming merger, Fox hasn't formally announced any more 'main' X-Men movies after Dark Phoenix ('main' being the First Class/Days Of Future Past/Apocalypse timeline).

This means that the upcoming sequel could well close off the stories of the core members of the X-Men, including James McAvoy's Professor X, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan's Cyclops, and Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique.

It just wouldn't be wise for Fox to publicly reveal another movie featuring this cast, even though the merger might not go through; because, if it does, Disney will likely want to go in their own direction with these characters, and that could mean recasting every role, instantly undoing any future plans Fox had laid down.

So if Dark Phoenix is to be the last time we see this iteration of the X-Men on the big screen, it's almost comforting that the studio is taking the time and spending the money - reshoots ain't cheap - to give them a quality send-off.
