It's a long shot, but what if Dark Phoenix isn't the final movie featuring this particular cast and X-Men crew?

According to THR, Fox is still going "100 miles per hour" on a slew of comic-book movies involving the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and, most interestingly, the outlet added that the studio is planning to release three X-Men (not "superhero") movies in 2019, and another three in 2020.

That report was published a month before Dark Phoenix was delayed to 2019, so it isn't included in that group of 2019 X-Men movies. To our knowledge, Fox has a couple of X-Men spinoff movies (including Gambit) in development, as well as X-Force, but six movies across a two-year span does leave the door open for a direct sequel to Dark Phoenix.

Even if Fox is planning X-Men movies for 2019 and beyond, the Disney buyout could completely nix those plans, so hoping for certain movies is fruitless. However, this report tells us that Fox is pushing ahead as though the merger isn't happening, which is smart, because it could very well fall through.
