With a resume boasting roles such as Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club, Rick Peck in Tropic Thunder, "Killer" Joe Cooper in Killer Joe, Dallas in Magic Mike and Cooper in Interstellar (to name but a few) Rogan was curious as to how the actor decided on which project he would be a part of next.

Firstly, McConaughey mentioned that he focuses on the pedigree of the people around him on the film. He wonders if the director, script and producers are "excellent" or "right for this story". However, the most important thing he considers when choosing a part is whether the character makes him "shake in (his) boots, the right way".

He also noted that he enjoys characters where the decisions seriously cost them and there are consequences in each and every scene they are a part of. Simply put, he prefers the people he plays to face serious risk in a film (for example, life or death decisions).

It was also interesting seeing the actor reveal that he doesn't like to feel restricted emotionally in a role. He noted that in a rom-com you aren't given the freedom to really let loose emotionally as it could derail the film, whereas in dramas you have the chance to truly react how you see fit.
