10 Things We Learned From Matthew McConaughey On The Joe Rogan Experience

4. Has He Struggled Expressing His Beliefs In Hollywood?

If you weren't aware before watching/listening to this McConaughey's appearance on the JRE, this fine actor is unashamedly religious and he happily spoke about his beliefs to Rogan throughout the pod.

Yet, it was particularly interesting to hear how he felt science was the "practical pursuit of God" and that science and religion were never seen as contradictions in his mind. This was also something he managed to bring to the screen in his role of Palmer Joss in Contact.

He also said that as a Christian who reads the Bible, he doesn't know how to use the "Burning Bush" story and "magic" elements of the book in his every day life. But he does know how to use lessons such as loving your neighbour like yourself from the book, highlighting how he only utilises what he can in day to day life from the Bible.

Rogan then wondered whether McConaughey had experienced any difficulty expressing his beliefs in Hollywood.

The actor didn't admit to having any specific difficulties. However, he did note a time when he received an award on stage in front of his peers and some people he has prayed with before. During his acceptance speech, the thespian thanked God and saw these folks go to clap, only to stop themselves when they realised it may look bad on their resumes.

McConaughey doesn't judge people for not wanting to be open about their beliefs, however he does feel that illegitimizing people because their a believer is "arrogant" and "hypocritical".
