10 Things We Learned From Robert Downey Jr On Joe Rogan's Podcast

4. Does He Think Tropic Thunder Would Be Made Today?

When asked by Rogan whether you'd be able to make Tropic Thunder today, Downey replied 'oh, you could do it!' and elicited a belly laugh from the host.

Downey felt that the main draw to his role in the hit 2008 flick as Kirk Lazarus - the method actor who underwent 'pigmentation alteration' surgery in order to play a black character - was the fact that he got to poke fun at the 'insane self involved hypocrisy of artists and what they think they're allowed to do on occasion.'

He also went on to state that Ben Stiller did an awesome job in directing a piece that was 'impossible to not be an offensive nightmare of a movie.' But did clarify that '90% of his black friends said, dude that was great.'

Rogan seems to feel as though Tropic Thunder may be the 'last time we see that' - referring to someone being allowed to take on such a controversial role - but, Downey defended the film by stating that 'Tropic Thunder is about how wrong that is', alluding to his characters decisions in the movie.

You can't imagine in today's current climate, Stiller and his gang would be able to get away with some of the things they did in 2008, but you never know...
