10 Things We Learned From The 6-Minute Ant-Man Trailer

3. ...But It's A Comedy

However, such earnestness plays well against Scott's deflations like "Nice speech," the way he follows "I'm the Ant-Man" by apologizing for his own code-name, and the moment where Hope first "teaches" Lang "how to punch." There's also a name-drop to the Avengers that makes it clear they won't be showing up, which is a very wise move. The filmmakers seem to understand the heart of this movie will only succeed if it keeps its focus on Lang and his somewhat unconventional hero's journey. There's also a brief snippet or two that hints at Lang's relationship with his daughter, always the most relatable aspect of his character in the comics (as highlighted in the current Ant-Man series). While this is far from a kid's movie or even a traditional "family film," the emphasis on father-daughter bonds (Hope Van Dyne is Hank Pym's daughter) gives it a different, warmer feel than the anxious, paranoid Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
