10 Things We Want To See From Disney's Live-Action The Lion King
7. Top Vocal Talent
This does not necessarily mean A-listers: it means quality vocals, period.
Whether they indeed come from the kings (and queens) of Hollywood, or the new kid on the block doesn’t matter, so long as the importance of vocals is realised.
The Jungle Book’s cast was largely made up of recognised names and it worked very well. So trusting Favreau’s judgment here is probably the right thing. Let's just hope that the construction of relatable voices, so important here given The Lion King’s tendency to tug at the heartstrings, doesn't give way to building the aesthetics.
Some fans have already began to speculate on who should take to the recording booths, ranging from Vin Diesel or Liam Neeson as Mufassa and Kevin Hart as Timon to bringing back the entire original cast. Ultimately, we’re looking for vocal talent that’ll perfectly preserve the soul of the original as The Lion King is reintroduced to a younger generation.
