Back in 2010, there was a fairly huge Twitter and general fan campaign to see Donald Glover cast as Spider-Man in the then-upcoming Amazing Spider-Man film. Many fans expressed disinterest in seeing another "white guy" version of the character, leading to the hashtag #donald4spiderman" becoming the third highest trending topic on Twitter at the time.

Sadly, Glover wasn't cast (the role instead going to Andrew Garfield) but that didn't mean fans - and even many comic writers - forgot the idea, or stopped recognising its worth.

In fact, a new version of Spider-Man, named Miles Morales, was inspired by Glover. Comic writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, alongside Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso drew inspiration from Glover's personal appearance and personality when coming up with the character. Glover even wound up voicing Miles Morales during season three of the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.
