10 Things You Didn't Know About A Nightmare On Elm Street

7. Freddy Was Originally Supposed To Stay Quiet

Considering just how much of a sass-mouthed assh*le Freddy Krueger is, it seems almost impossible that the original iteration of the villain would be one that is absolutely silent. In the same way Barakapool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine was done a dreadful disservice by having his mouth sewn shut, one Mr Krueger was also subdued to be more in keeping with popular slashers of the time Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers - both of which don't utter a word throughout their franchises to really hone in on that 'silent but deadly' vibe. Potent, eh?

In the first film, it's easy to notice how comparatively quiet he is compared to the tongue in cheek rascal he transforms into over the length of the series, especially since he's only graced with less than 7 minutes of screen time. Thankfully, Craven decided to toy with Freddy's sense of black humour just enough to set a precedent that the continuing films played out and built upon in excellent fashion - and the rest is history.
