10 Things You Didn't Know About Alan Rickman

1. He Was With His Partner For Almost Fifty Years Before They Married

It's something of a rare thing for incredibly famous actors to maintain a stable, lengthy relationship. Rickman's frequent kindness and humility (he was a supporter of many charities and fund-raisers) should have been evidence enough that he was an amazing person, but hearing about his relationship with teenage sweetheart Rima Horton (who later became an economics lecturer at Kingston University) really hammers the point home.

The two met in 1965. At the time, Rickman was just nineteen years old, and Horton was eighteen. Horton was Rickman's first ever girlfriend, and the two began living together just under a decade later in 1977. The couple married a staggering fifty years after they first met, tying the knot in a private ceremony in New York City. The two remained living together from the year they moved in together until Rickman's sad, untimely death in January 2016.
