10 Things You Didn't Know About Arnold Schwarzenegger

8. He Was Considered Too Short To Play The Role Of The Hulk

With special effects what they are these days, big muscles are no longer a pre-requisite if you're an actor looking to play the Incredible Hulk. Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is about as far removed from a bodybuilder as you can get. Back in the late 1970s computer generated effects were in their infancy, so finding the right person to play Hulk in the TV series meant auditioning some real-life giants. Arnold Schwarzenegger certainly had the muscles, but at 6' 2" he ended up losing out to his former training partner Lou Ferringo. It wasn't Arnie's first dalliance with the world of comic book adaptations, although few would argue that his performance as Mr. Freeze in the dreadful Batman And Robin was anything less than disappointing.
