10 Things You Didn't Know About Avatar
1. It’s Showtime
Six years after Avatar had achieved global domination, a slew of sequels had been announced, but all are still in the very early stages of pre production. At the same time, James Cameron started a collaboration with world famous contemporary circus company Circ Du Soleil on a show set on Pandora.
The show, Toruk - The First Flight, premiered in Montreal in 2015 and takes place deep in the past history of the Na’vi people and tells the story of the first Torruk Makto, or Rider of the Toruk. The Toruk is Pandora’s winged apex predator which Jake Sully would eventually master in the films climax to become leader of the tribes.
The show was performed around the world over a four year period and combined circus performers as the Na’vi and complex puppets, some as large twelve meters, for the creatures of Pandora. The entire show was performed in the Na’vi language with only a narrator speaking English and only to give extra information to the worldwide audience.
With a stage show and and theme park at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, Avatar is a hit for Cameron regardless of the medium.
