10 Things You Didn't Know About Avatar
2. Sam Worthington Lived In His Car
Now an established star, with films such Clash Of The Titans and Hacksaw Ridge to his name, Sam Worthington has not always been in this position.
At the time he was called for the initial audition for Avatar back in 2006, Worthington was homeless and living in his car. After getting a call from his agent, he completed an audition tape and sent it off expecting it to be, in his own words “a waste of my time”. One week later, while up a mountain snowboarding, he received a phone call saying that James Cameron wanted to fly him to Los Angles to try out for the lead in his new movie.
This role launched Worthington as an international star, but it would take three years before the movie hit the theatres. The post production on Avatar was so long that, after he wrapped on the shoot for Avatar, he was immediately cast in a new movie.
This film was shot, post production completed and released in 2009, the same year as Avatar which had only just completed all of its effects work. In 2009 Sam Worthington was the star of both Avatar and Terminator Salvation making him a multi billion box office sensation.
