10 Things You Didn't Know About Back To The Future

3. The Name Calvin Klein Has Some Rather Odd Translations

One of the main running jokes throughout the Back To The Future series are the names Marty gives himself upon travelling backwards and forwards through time. In Part III, he awards himself the name Clint Eastwood (who, humorously, the film's crew had to ask for permission to use), and in Part I he renames himself Calvin Klein, the man that founded the American fashion house of the same name. It seems that Mr. Klein's name doesn't translate particularly well across languages though, as self-imposed renaming ceremony bestows him with different names in other versions of the film. In the French version of the film, Marty goes by the name of Pierre Cardin, an Italian-born French fashion designer, and in the Spanish version, he calls himself Levi Strauss - a name synonymous with the manufacture of blue jeans. Look down and check your attire now, you're probably wearing a pair as you read this. It's hardly surprising that the French version of the film opted to give Marty a name more recognisable by its audiences, but the Spanish version has us a little confused. Are there no famous Spanish fashion designers?
