10 Things You Didn't Know About Black Widow

2. There Was A Black Widow Movie In Development

Long before Scarlett Johansson took on the Black Widow role, leading to many, may calls for her to have her own movie, there was actually a film starring the character in development. In 2004, David Hayter, who wrote X-Men and X-Men 2, wrote a Black Widow script for Lionsgate. The script served as an origin story, following her time as an orphan and her training in the Red Room. Hayter was optimistic about the film getting made following the success of female-driven vehicles such as Kill Bill and Tomb Raider. However, after the failure of the movie Aeon Flux, the studio got spooked and decided it wasn't the right time for female superhero films. They cancelled the planned movie 3 days after Flux's opening weekend. More than 10 years later and we're still waiting for a Black Widow fronted project. Come on guys, Aeon Flux was ages ago. It's probably safe now.
