10 Things You Didn't Know About Christopher Nolan

7. It€™s A Family Affair

Chris Nolan has a reputation for retaining the services of key players, remaining loyal to and retaining the loyalty of many frequent collaborators €“ it€™s not just Michael Caine who crops up in each production. So the saying goes, behind every great man there€™s a great(er) woman, and in Nolan€™s case this role is filled by Emma Thomas €“ his wife of seventeen years whom he met during their time studying at University College London. They also say you should avoid working with your spouse, but Thomas has worked in a producing capacity on every single Nolan film to date and the results speak for themselves. And his wife isn€™t the only family member with whom Chris Nolan frequently joins forces €“ his screenwriter brother Jonathan has also been heavily involved with his films, co-writing two Batman films and also being heavily involved in Memento, The Prestige and Interstellar. So it€™s fair to say Nolan likes to keep it in the family and involve his nearest and dearest whenever possible, and there€™s even a place for his kids: The Dark Knight masqueraded under the code name €˜Rory€™s First Kiss€™ in the development stages, its sequel was known as €˜Magnus Rex€™, Inception was called €˜Oliver€™s Arrow€™ and Interstellar shot under the name €˜Flora€™s Letters€™, meaning that all four of his children have now been name checked by the director.
