10 Things You Didn't Know About Clint Eastwood

4. He Was Mayor Of Carmel-By-The-Sea

Eastwood is well-known for his strong political views, at times supporting Republican, Conservative, and Liberal campaigns and policies. But more than simply endorsing other politicians, he has actually held office himself. Upon disagreeing with the governing body of his adopted hometown of Carmel-By-The-Sea, he subsequently announced that he would himself be running for Mayor. Somewhat unsurprisingly (who wouldn't want Clint Eastwood as their Mayor?), he won the election and held office for two years. During his term, he helped to revitalise small businesses, and constructed local amenities such as a library, public toilets, and car parks to boost tourism. Satisfied that his job was done, Eastwood returned to film making in 1988, but he still holds an interest in politics. These days he can still be seen on the political circuit supporting the likes of Equal Rights Amendments and same-sex marriage, and holding conversations with empty chairs.
