Aside from the fact that she did actually end up voicing a funny little animated version of Wonder Woman in the 2013 cinematic phenomena The Lego Movie, Cobie Smulders very nearly played the Amazonian heroine in Joss Whedon's live action movie adaptation of the character. This may well go a long way to explaining why Whedon cast her as Maria Hill, but when the Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator was in line to direct the ill-fated live action DC Comics project, he stated (albeit after his departure from the project) that Smulders was his first choice to play the lead. Of course, Gal Gadot will now play the heroine in the DC Cinematic Universe and Smulders has her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the rest is history.
