5. After Landing The Role Of Kate On Lost, She Was Almost Recast
After auditioning 80 different woman for the role of Kate on TV's Lost, writer, director and producer J.J. Abrams knew he had found the right person for the job when Evangeline Lilly walked into the room, reportedly declaring: "That's the girl." He cited her candid ability to be be both tough and goofy in equal measure as exactly what he had envisioned for the character. Lilly was offered the role almost instantly, of course, but disaster struck when she had problems obtaining a work visa to allow her to work in the United States. After 20 attempts (seriously: she has that much trouble getting one), Lilly was finally granted the visa she needed, and flew to Hawaii, where she arrived on the set of Lost - a day late. Phew!
