There was a surprising complexitiy about designing Binx the cat and how he would move across the screen. Rhythm and Hues were the creators of the CGI cat and insured his facial features would resemble a real cat.

In terms of the real life model used, there were actually NINE different ones used as they all served a different purpose for various tricks and personalities. It's common practice to have numerous animals play one character so that they don't get too tired when performing. This was incredibly problematic for the child actors because they'd have to go through the training of working with the new cat every time.

Furthermore, there were technically two actors to play Binx. Sean Murray was the human version, whilst Jason Marsden voiced the animal part of his character.
