10 Things You Didn't Know About Inglourious Basterds

5. Adam Sandler Was Offered The Role Of Donny Donowitz

Adam Sandler Inglourious Basterds The inevitable sigh of relief heard from thousands of people upon learning this little fact is probably so loud, that even Adam Sandler himself can probably hear it. That might sound a little harsh, but Sandler's recent film output isn't exactly setting the world on fire in terms of critical response. Almost every film the actor has starred in recently has been almost universally panned for being either offensive, unfunny or poorly acted, which makes Tarantino's original choice rather baffling. The film as a whole is a rather tongue-in-cheek take on the whole fascist regime of Nazi Germany, so a predominantly comedy-oriented actor wouldn't be completely nonsensical, but we're just not sure that Sandler would have brought the right type of humour to the table. Granted, Click saw Sandler play a more subdued role in terms of his usual wacky comedy characters, but films like Billy Madison and Jack & Jill are certainly not the type of Sandler comedy that would have fit for the tone of the film.
