4. He Got The Role Of Khal Drogo By Performing A Traditional New Zealand War Dance
Whilst Momoa is most well-known for his role on Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo, the story of how he got the role is an amusing little tale in itself. During the audition process, Momoa was given a scene to read which basically consisted of Drogo repeating the word 'no' a heap of times. Seeing how boring the original scene was, Momoa turned to an actor friend and was given the idea to do something a little more unorthodox. Rather than read the lines or chant in Drogo's native Dothraki, Momoa decided to do a traditional Maori 'Haka', or what is known as a New Zealand war chant. Performed before a battle, and consisting of some throaty chants and panther-like movements, Momoa's take of the 'Haka' was every bit as aggressive and intense as you'd expect from the future Khal Drogo. Rather than brush it off as a desperate attempt to win their attention, the executive producers of the show loved it and offered Momoa the part. In fact, the producers loved it so much that they arranged a second audition just so Momoa can perform the dance a second time.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
