10 Things You Didn't Know About John Carpenter

3. His Final Student Film Won An Oscar

"Oscar-winning student film" isn€™t a phrase you typically hear but it applies to The Resurrection Of Bronco Billy, which Carpenter made with a bunch of student pals back in 1970. The story followed a young man who daydreams of being teleported back to the Old West, and Carpenter was the writer, editor and music composer on the film. The film was a surprise winner at the Oscars ceremony in 1971, but Carpenter and his fellow students didn€™t get to bask in the warm glow of the Academy. The university collected the statue on their behalf, and a lecturer later brought it into class €“ wrapped in a brown paper bag €“ so they could look it for an hour. The UCLA Carpenter soon dropped out of the university following this, feeling it wasn't right that the students who did the work didn't get the credit.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
