10 Things You Didn't Know About Jumanji
1. The Original Jumanji Board Sells For Over $60,000
It's not uncommon for original props to sell for big money on-line, especially if those props come from iconic movie franchises such as Star Wars or Harry Potter. So would it surprise you to hear that Jumanji is right up there with the big guns when it comes to commanding big money from collectors?
After years of fans nagging director Joe Johnston to sell the one and only true Jumanji game board, the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids and Captain America: The First Avenger director finally relented and uploaded the memorabilia to eBay, presumably expecting to sell it for a modest amount.
The listing boasted that this was the original Jumanji game board, but had "One of its hinges fixed by Joe Johnston", making it even more desirable to those desperate to get their hands on it. Other modifications included new dice, and a signed certificate of authenticity.
The board game sold in January 2014, to an anonymous buyer, after a bidding war that included 193 different offers. The final sale price ended up at $60,800 plus $71 shipping - it remains unknown whether the buyer ended up getting trapped inside the game after dusting it off, and as they refused any publicity we'll probably never know.
