10 Things You Didn't Know About Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2
9. Tarantino Has A Very Brief Cameo In Vol. 1
It's hardly a secret that Tarantino likes to appear in his own films. From his bizarre and hilarious housewife-esque character in Pulp Fiction to an Australian slaver in Django Unchained, the director clearly likes to appear in his own films as much as he likes to direct them. But one role you're probably not aware of is his appearance in Kill Bill Vol. 1. The term 'role' should be used rather loosely here though as, unlike the (presumably self-written) director's past roles in his own films, you'd never know he was even in the martial arts action film. In the iconic scene where Beatrix essentially kills every single member of the Crazy 88s gang in a Tokyo restaurant, one of the many severely mutilated corpses lying on the floor is that of Mr. Tarantino himself. Considering that the cameo doesn't actually have any narrative purpose, Tarantino presumably just wanted to get a more hands-on approach by spending hours in make-up getting bloodied up. We guess that was best for everyone though, we can't imagine the director having actually been one of the Yakuza trying to kill Beatrix - his ethnicity would have made him stick out more than a 5ft tall basketball player.
