10 Things You Didn't Know About Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2
8. There's A Nod To True Romance In The First Film
No, the easter egg in question doesn't involve Christopher Walken, unfortunately. As the picture above suggests, the tribute to True Romance in Kill Bill is actually that Tarantino actually cast Christian Slater in the film as a background character in heavy make-up to disguise who he really was. Okay, that's a barefaced lie, but it would have been an infinitely cooler idea than the actual truth. When Beatrix wakes up from her four-year coma after being shot in the head, she discovers that (other than the fact that she's no longer pregnant) she has been repeatedly raped while comatose by her supposed hospital carer: Buck. After dealing out some vigilante justice on Buck for his repeated rape offences, she steals the keys to his truck from his corpse and teaches herself to walk again while in it. But what does this have to do with True Romance? Well, the pair of sunglasses she finds in the truck are the exact same pair that Christian Slater wears in True Romance as Clarence Worley. As we said, the truth is rather boring in comparison to our made up story, but it's a fun little fact nonetheless. For those that are wondering why Tarantino opted to have a True Romance easter egg in his film: the man was responsible for writing the screenplay for it.
