After the recent announcement that Monroe will take the role of former President Thomas Whitmore's (Bill Pullman) daughter Patricia in Independence Day 2 (which is currently filming), a lot of journalists began to ask Monroe how she felt about the push and pull between art-house fare and big studio movies. It wasn't long before questions arose over what sort of big-budget movies she'd like to star in, specifically whether comic book movies were her thing. Her most telling answer related to Marvel's upcoming Captain Marvel movie, set for release in November 2018. On the part, Monroe said back in March, Someone was asking me the other day about Captain Marvel? That would be what I want. Start campaigning me to be Captain Marvel! Naturally her fanbase is already out in droves pushing for her casting, even though rumours began to emerge by the end of March that the role of Carol Danvers had already been cast. Is it possible that Marvel reached out to Monroe in the weeks following this interview and gave her the part? Or with over three years to go before release, is the rumour mill total bunk, and the part's still wide open? Time will tell, but there will no doubt be plenty out in support of an actress this talented joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
