10 Things You Didn't Know About The Mad Max Trilogy

2. An Automatic Car Had To Be Specially Built For Tina Turner

Speaking of cars - as is often the case when discussing the Mad Max trilogy - music megastar Tina Turner, who appeared in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, insisted on doing all of her own driving (at least, for the shots where you can clearly see it's her). Unfortunately it wasn't long before the filmmakers realised that Turner wasn't familiar with some of the quirks of living in Australia, and they soon realised that she couldn't drive stick. The crew had to find their best mechanic to convert it to automatic transmission. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome wasn't the runaway success it could have been but it certainly did no harm to Tina Turner's music career (even if she never really took off as a screen actor) - the song she recorded for the movie, We Don't Need Another Hero, turned out to be one of her biggest worldwide singles.
