10 Things You Didn't Know About The Mad Max Trilogy

5. The Toecutters Were Played By A Real Biker Gang

When you can't afford to build your own props to dress a set and the director is forced to bribing people for their help with crates of booze, the chances of finding the cash to pay for gangs of professional stuntmen are slim to none. Proving himself to be one of the most industrious low budget filmmakers to have ever managed to finish a project, George Miller saved some cash on the production by getting a bunch of real life bikers to play the extras in the Toecutter Gang. They even provided their own bikes and performed a few of their stunts, too. Whether or not Miller paid them all with slabs of beer is unknown, although no doubt a few cans of trusty ale would have helped ease the pain from falling off their bikes over and over again.
