10 Things You Didn't Know About The Predator
6. The Original Design Was Very Different
During production of the first Predator film, the alien antagonist was going to be more stealthy and agile, with martial artist Jean-Claude van Damme donning the prosthetic suit.
However, shooting this in the middle of the Mexican jungle was not only impractical but also apparently rather silly according to both cast and crew. They weren’t wrong though, I mean look at it!
Van Damme also looked tiny next to his megalithic co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Van Damme and the initial concept were scrapped so concept artist and actual creator of the prosthetic suit Stan Wilson had to come up with a whole new idea.
Kevin Peter Hall was then brought in to play the newly designed monster, and was physically a far better fit, being only a miniscule seven-foot two-inch stature.
