3. Schwarzenegger Recruited Verhoeven
Under the deal he had secured with Caralco, Schwarzenegger retained vetoes after both the casting choices and the choice of director. He chose Verhoeven having been impressed with Robocop, for which Arnie had auditioned shortly after the first Terminator film (no fear of typecasting, then). Verhoeven agreed on the condition that he could bring in some of his team from Robocop, as well as allowing his screenwriter-of-choice Gary Goldman to work with Shusett on redrafting the third act. Arnie agreed, and that is why we got Ronny Cox playing the villain and Rob Bottin doing the special effects (again, more later).
