10 Things You Didn't Know About Yoda

4. He Couldn't Wield A Lightsaber Until He Was CGI

The big reveal in Attack of the Clones is that Yoda, as well as being wise beyond the comprehension of lesser mortals, was badass. As ridiculous as the concept sounded at the time, Yoda's flipping, yelping assault on Count Dooku was far from the worst thing in the movie and was at least something unexpected and different.

Yoda reverting to unsteady old man-mode before anyone sees him is probably the film's most telling character beat, too.

The only reason George Lucas waited until Episode 2 to show Yoda getting physical was that it was impossible earlier. After CGI tests didn't pan out in The Phantom Menace, a puppet was again used for Yoda in the first prequel, and a problem with tiny puppet hands is that they can't grip anything realistically - including lightsabers.

It was only when a fully CGI Yoda was possible in Attack of the Clones that Yoda could finally draw his Jedi's weapon.
