10 Things You Learn Re-Watching Prometheus

8. The PUPS Are Incredibly Cool

One of Prometheus' most interesting contributions to the Alien franchise is the PUPS, a set of spherical instruments which are capable of flying unmanned into an unknown and potentially hostile environment in order to map it in 3D using a state-of-the-art laser system.

The PUPS first show up when geologist Fifield (Sean Harris) deploys them to map the Engineers' Temple and assist the Prometheus' crew in navigating it...for all the good it does.

As dumb as the scientists themselves were in this movie, at least the toys they got to fool around with were legitimately awesome, and the PUPS ended up being one of its more memorable additions to the pantheon of general sci-fi tech-wizardry.
