10 Things You Learn Re-Watching Prometheus

7. The Black Goo Is Silly...But Fun

Prometheus Black Goo
Fox

There's a lot of debate about the movie's mysterious "black goo", the chemical weapon devised by the Engineers which of course escaped their control with the arrival of the Prometheus' crew.

Some might balk at the substance's totally random mutations to human subjects and the lack of explanation regarding its properties, but taken on its own terms, it does add a fun twist to the series, given the wide-open potential for some very, very messed-up mutations to show up in Alien: Covenant and beyond.

Fans are somewhat required to just go along for the ride when it comes to the fairly convoluted nature of how the black goo infecting Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) eventually leads to the final Engineer giving birth to the proto-Xenomorph, but it is a fascinating compound all the same, and has a ton of potential moving forward.
