10 Things You Learn Re-Watching Prometheus

4. It's Admirably Ambitious & Philosophical

It's easy to write Prometheus off as a dumb movie featuring the most idiotic smart people ever known to man, but if you can put the unconvincing character decisions to the back of your mind, there are some genuinely thought-provoking dialogues throughout the film.

Perhaps the most telling exchange of all sees Holloway talking to David, who asks Holloway why humans created androids, and he replies "because they could". David then answers with the chilling provocation, "Can you imagine how disappointing it would be for you to hear the same thing from your creator?"

Though this and other dialogues may be slightly on-the-nose, they do root the film in a more philosophical context than its predecessors, which generally stuck more plainly to character-driven action and suspense. It may not be totally successful, but its ambition is certainly admirable.
