10 Things You Learn Revisiting Star Trek: First Contact For First Contact Day

8. Please State The Nature Of The Medical Emergency

Quite understandably, the producers tried to save money where they could during production and as a result of this, the Enterprise E has the same sickbay as the USS Voyager, which was running while this film was in theatres. As fans of the franchise would clearly be aware of this, the decision was made to offer a cameo to the EMH himself, Robert Picardo.

As the Borg try to beat down the door to sickbay, Crusher swallows her pride and activates the EMH to give the staff and patients time to escape. In another short but truly memorable scene, the Doctor is walked slowly backward towards the bulkhead, not offering resistance in the way of arms but in medical attention. After all, he is aware that Borg implants cause skin irritations - what kind of Doctor would he be if he didn't offer a cream to help?

It is also not the only cameo from the crew of Voyager in the film. Later, as Picard and Sloane attempt to distract and gain intel on the Borg, they escape to a holodeck and activate one of Picard's detective stories. When the Borg enter, they are met by none other than Ethan Philips - Neelix himself - out of make up and unimpressed with their attire.

Moments like this are a nice reward for fans of the different series. While it may not be Marvel level crossovers, it was pretty good for 1996!
