10 Things You Learn Rewatching Alien
3. It's Occasionally Unintentionally Hilarious
One of the more interesting facets of watching Alien in a cinema in 2019 is just how much laughter it wrought from the audience (for the standards of a horror film, anyway).
Sure, there are intentionally funny moments and some sparse witty dialogues, but most of the humour is derived from accidental, goofy moments which haven't quite stood the test of time.
The most immediately hilarious images include the recently-hatched Xenomorph bolting across the dinner table, the Xenomorph's awkward approaching shots for both Dallas and Lambert's death scenes, and of course, the jarring cuts between the Ian Holm and papier-mâché versions of Ash's disembodied head.
Hardcore fans are naturally far more likely to tolerate these slightly iffy moments, though to younger viewers witnessing them for the first time, it probably makes the film seem decidedly more dated.
