Back in 1998, there was really only one reason that Halloween H20 became such an event film and that reason is named Jamie Lee Curtis.

Having the original scream queen herself come back to the franchise that started her whole career is undeniably fulfilling. It's great to see Jamie Lee back in the role and she does some truly amazing work, digging especially deep into how Laurie's trauma.

And look, for all the issues H20 may have, the sequence in which Laurie finally reclaims the narrative and begins hunting Michael as the score cues up is spine-tinglingly awesome. Especially considering just how underserviced and passive this character was in her previous appearance on-screen (Halloween II), it is wonderful to see her get such an active role in the third act of this film.

Over the course of the film, Jamie Lee covers a lot of ground as Laurie goes from in-hiding over-protective-mom to full-blown badass, and she gives 110% to every single moment of it. Much like Donald Pleasence in the earlier films, Jamie Lee Curtis singlehandedly makes the film better anytime she is on-screen by completely slaying her role.
