10 Things You Learn Rewatching Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1982)
5. Dan O'Herlihy As Conal Cochran Is Great
Because of the change in narrative directions, Halloween III is sadly lacking Donald Pleasence but thankfully, Dan O'Herlihy was more than up to the challenge of filling that void.
Playing Conal Cochran, the man in charge of Silver Shamrock, O'Herlihy is simultaneously capable of commanding attention with an electric screen presence and making your skin crawl with a single facial tick.
O'Herlihy is remarkably able to be both charming and unsettling, giving a performance that isn't a far cry from Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka.
All of this only makes his later turn all the more effective, as he allows the unsettling part to overtake him and goes full-on monologue-spewing villain.
During the finale, the script calls for O'Herlihy to monologue, revealing his entire plan. In lesser hands, this could have easily been a dull and trite scene, but O'Herlily elevates the material and makes it one of the film's best scenes.
