10 Things You Learn Rewatching Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers (1995)
7. Jamie's Sour Note
After spending two films with Danielle Harris' Jamie as the central protagonist, it feels more than a bit off to simply recast and end her storyline in such a bizarre and unsatisfying way.
First off, Harris should have been brought back to close out the role, especially after her genuinely great performance in Halloween 5. So the recast stings a little, but far more importantly, the story just treats her character as utterly disposable.
Her sole purpose in this film is to birth a baby that will become the MacGuffin of the entire plot and then to die. To make matters even worse, it is pretty heavily implied that the reason the Cult wants the baby at all is that Michael, Jamie's uncle, is the father. The Halloween franchise has gone down some dark alleys before but making the incestual rape of a fifteen-year-old a core story beat of your film feels like maybe taking things a bit too far.
Her death is also absolutely irrelevant to the story, with it having little-to-no effect on anyone or anything. After becoming such an active survivor in Halloween 5, Jamie is reduced to being a passive victim in this film, wasting the entirety of her arc over the previous two films.
