10 Things You Learn Rewatching Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers (1995)

6. The Strode Family Subplot

Amidst all of the Cult of Thorn backstory and the re-introduction of characters like Jamie, Loomis, and even Tommy Doyle, the film goes out of its way to introduce us to a whole new section of the Strode family.

Living in Haddonfield, in the Myers house of all places, these Strodes serve as a window into the town and little else. They have absolutely no bearing on the narrative at large. They could be cut from the entire film and the only thing that would be lost would be wasted minutes of runtime.

Which is really a problem, considering that Marianne Hagan's Kara Strode is supposed to be the film's attempt at a primary protagonist. The film sure does spend a lot of time trying to make the audience feel things for Kara and her being-tempted-to-murder-his-family-by-Thorn son, Danny, but they play zero part in the actual narrative. At the end of the film, Kara is kidnapped for reasons that are never clear and Danny never does anything.

The only reason the Strodes are included at all is to give Michael people to kill in the second act and to pad the runtime. Which makes their excessive amount of screentime all the more painful.
