10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's New Spider-Man

4. There Was A Lot Of Strong Competition For The Role

Marvel and Sony initially considered casting a complete unknown as Peter Parker. However, both Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal were left unimpressed by what they saw, and that's when they turned their attention turned to youngsters with a proven track record. Working alongside regular Marvel casting director Sarah Finn, they managed to get the shortlist down to six. Those were Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe. They all look pretty different and don't share much in common in terms of their previous roles, but they each had something Marvel liked. For a while, it looked like the job was Butterfield's, but some believe he may have been dropped from contention after addressing some reddit trolls who were arguing that he's too short for the role. Marvel are all about keeping secrets, and that bothered them. Ultimately though, it came down to Holland and Rowe, and only one could win the role.
