10 Things You Need To Know About Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4

1. They Didn't Make It Because Raimi Hated It

Sony Pictures

The pressure being put on Raimi to rush Spider-Man 4 out so it could compete with the burgeoning Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't the Sony reason that he walked away from the film, but it definitely seems to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

The truncated production schedule was going to involve some sacrificing of quality, in his eyes. What's weird is that Spider-Man 4 seemed to be all set. Maguire was on board through six films, after striking a deal which would allow him evenings off to spend with his young daughter. Dunst was onboard, Malkovich and Hathaway seemed as good as locked, scripts were being written. Scripts which, in Raimi's words, €œhated€.

He reportedly went through four revisions of the script, with different writers, and not a one of them could nail it. Raimi doubted they would have the issues ironed out in time, and generally though that release date was optimistic. Sony cancelled the film in January 2010.

Ultimately, Sony thanked Raimi €œfor not wasting the studio's money€ and Vanderbilt wrote 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, which became the highest-grossing reboot of all time.

Would you have liked to see Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4? Or are you glad we got The Amazing Spider-Man and the eventual move to Marvel? Have your say down in the comments.
