10 Things You Need To Know About The Star Wars Spin-Off Movies

4. The Expanded Universe Is Still A No-Go

The most unsurprising development to come out of the production of the Sequel Trilogy, yet one that still managed to rile up quite a lot of shock in the fanbase, was that the incredibly dense and complex Expanded Universe, which had fleshed out the Star Wars universe decades into the future and millennia into the past, had been declared non-canon to allow Abrams and co. free reign with the new films. Many still cling to the idea that this is just the post-Return Of The Jedi content, with all The Knights Of The Old Republic story still standing, but that's rather idealistic - like The Force Awakens, these spin-offs will charge through the galaxy irrespective of whatever was written before. If the movies are dealing with Solo and Fett, for example, expect their long-established history to be altered dramatically - Han may not necessarily be a former Imperal and Boba is now destined to sit in that Sarlacc for the duration. This shouldn't be too jarring an experience for fans. Lucas was always very flippant to the wider canon, adhering to its broad strokes only when he felt like it (heck, with the Prequels he even messed with the continuity of the Originals).
