10 Things You Need To Know Before Watching Joker

3. It's Heavily Inspired By Martin Scorsese's Films

Despite not being directly involved with the production or direction of the movie, Joker does take some pointers and give nods to legendary film-maker, Martin Scorsese.

The films setting and elements of the direction are supposedly paying homage to the likes of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, both Scorsese classics.

Director Todd Phillips is a keen admirer of Scorsese and has let it known that despite only meeting the legendary director for a brief period in his life, he did indeed send the script for Joker over to Scorsese. A conversation between the two is known to have followed and while it's unclear exactly what Phillips was told, it's pretty obvious he will have taken any points raised on board.

Scorsese's filming of Netflix's The Irishman prevented him from being directly involved with the shooting of Joker, but fans will no doubt be looking out for things which might well be directly inspired.

Joker will hopefully do Phillips - and Scorsese - proud once it hits the big screen.
