10 Things You Never Noticed In The Cornetto Trilogy
6. The Royal Connection (The World's End)
Something you should never underestimate in The Cornetto Trilogy is the thought that goes into naming the characters. The Andys and Nicholas Angel in Hot Fuzz came from the fact that, of all the police Wright and Pegg interviewed prior to the film (and despite not being an entirely accurate depiction of your regular officer's day-to-day life, they apparently did a lot of), a disproportionate amount of them were called Andy or Nick. Angel's surname was then taken from the real-life Nicholas Angel, Working Title's in-house music supervisor who worked on the soundtracks to every film in The Cornetto Trilogy. For a truly mind-boggling bunch of names, though, look no further that the cast of The World's End. Simon Pegg plays Gary King, and in that surname lies the key to unlocking the rest of the character's name. They're all regal in some way, you see: Nick Frost as Andy Knightley (you know, like a knight of the round table or whatever), Eddie Marsan as Peter Page (a traditional young male servant), Paddy Considine as Steven Prince (c'mon), Martin Freeman's character is called Oliver Chamberlain (the officer in charge of managing the household of a sovereign or other noble figure). How this obsession with monarchy ties into the plot? Figure that one out for yourself, jeez, you're so demanding.
