10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Hellraiser

6. The Cenobites' Dialogue Was Cut For A Really Stupid Reason

In the first two films, Pinhead is the leader of a demonic group called The Gash, which is composed of four Cenobites - himself, The Female, Butterball, and the Chatterer. Although the Female and Pinhead speak, Butterball is completely mute and the Chatterer can only communicate through clicking sounds. At first, one would assume Butterball and the Chatterer don't talk so they come across as more unnerving.

However, each Cenobite spoke in the original script. When the actors portraying the demons had their make up put on, they realised there was a slight problem - they couldn't talk. The prosthetics on their face were so complex, it made their speech completely unintelligible. As a result, all their dialogue was repurposed to The Female and Pinhead.

But because The Female's costume limited the actress' movements, it was decided to give the majority of the Cenobites' lines to Pinhead, causing viewers to perceive him as the leader. If all the Cenobites spoke equally as was originally intended, Pinhead would have had far less screen time, meaning he may not have become the series' defining character.
