10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Hellraiser

7. Julia Was Meant To Be The Villain Of The Series

Even though the Hellraiser series is filled with psychopaths, demons, serial killers, and Satan worshippers, there is no question that Pinhead is the central antagonist.

But according to the director, he never viewed the spike-headed entity as the main villain, even after the first film came out. In his mind, the lead adversary of Hellraiser is Claire Higgins' character, Julia Cotton. As terrifying as Pinhead is, he barely appears in the movie (or any of the follow-ups for that matter). Julia, on the other hand, is the one who unleashes the Cenobites in the first place and is instrumental to the entire story. Despite dying at the end, Julia was resurrected in the sequel, serving as a main villain once more.

Although Hellraiser II was the last we saw of Julia, she was meant to keeping come back in the sequels as a recurring baddie. The Cenobites, on the other hand, were intended to be reduced to minor roles.

But due to Doug Bradley's charismatic performance as Pinhead (and his ugly mug looked great on the films' poster) his reputation as the franchise's trademark character was cemented.
