10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Netflix

2. They Are Producing The Sequel To Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a massive success back in 2000. It became the highest grossing foreign language film in American history, with over 40 awards under its belt, including an Oscar and 2 Golden Globes. Fast forward 14 years and Netflix is partnering with one of Hollywood's most powerful independent film studios, The Weinstein Company, to produce its sequel; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend. The film will be Netflix€™s first ever feature film production and will be released simultaneously in IMAX cinemas and via Netflix. At least, that€™s the plan. The announcement has caused a huge stir in the film broadcasting industry, with over half of IMAX cinemas claiming they will boycott the film due to its unconventional release. (New films usually have at least a 12 week window between opening in cinemas and being available to watch at home.) The film is due for release on 28th August 2015 and will see the the return of Michelle Yeoh as swordstress Yu Shu Lien, with Donnie Yen playing Silent Wolf. The film will be based on the fifth instalment of the Crane-Iron series of novels.
